Experienced Tradesman: Balancing Work, Family Life and Laser Engraving

Halloween and Chrismas Creations

SO it’s been a minute. After our summer vacation, I finally had a little time to figure out this laser thing. We had a minor set back and had to get some warranty parts, which, took a minute as well, but I finally got the machine up and running smoothly. I’ve added a few pictures of some of my latest projects above. For the most part I used files purchased from Creative Fabrica. This wonderful website that has thousands of files and ideas for all kinds of hobby fun. Click the Link:

I used files from there with some modifications for material thickness and sizing. Added some of my own touches to a few and fixed some small details that made the pieces very fragile. Now they are only partly fragile.

I am still working out how to glue some of the smaller pieces together so they stay where they need to be. I am using wood glue for the most part, but am on the hunt for a bottle with a smaller tip to get into the little crevices without pouring out more than is necessary.

Wood glue typically needs pressure for a while to set up properly. Some of the smaller pieces are nearly impossible to clamp in any way.

I am trying to concentrate on Christmas/Winter pieces now. I will make more of the Halloween stuff in the spring. With less than a couple weeks to go before the 31st, I won’t have enough time to do both Halloween and Christmas.

Christmas gifts will probably laser involved this year. As always, I am flipping through Pinterest with vigor looking for neat ideas that are obtainable.

As we live in Canada and the winter is approaching, I installed my diesel heater in my workshop. Within a couple of hours it is warm enough to be working in. The laser doesn’t mind the cold, but trying to paint in the cold is an exercise in futility. The stuff would never dry without the heat. I am mostly using spray paint on the pieces. Some paint markers have come in handy as well though.

This diesel heater has been great. For camping and for the shop. The Bluetooth control was a major selling point for me.

Time flies when you are having fun! Soon Christmas will be on our doorstep.

Thanks for reading. Feel free to subscribe and keep in touch. I promise to write more often as the winter season kicks in. The summers around here are crazy busy sometimes.
